Sunday Roundup

This week, the nation once again survived an onslaught of goblins and ghouls. I’m talking of course about Wednesday’s Republican debate. Candidates, campaigns, and RNC chair Reince Priebus all chided the moderators for not focusing on substance. I assu…

Miami Beats Duke On Absurd Lateral-Filled Kick Return

Miami beat Duke 30-27 Saturday night on a ridiculous game-winning kickoff return that featured eight laterals and just all around chaos on the field.

Miami appeared to have been moving backwards after the first seven laterals, but on the eighth, Miami cornerback Corn Elder caught the ball from his own nine yard line and ran 91 yards.

In the stats, it was a 75-yard return, but they ended up covering much more of the field than that.

During Elder’s scamper to the end zone, there was a block delivered that was originally ruled a block in the back and would have negated the touchdown. The officials reviewed the play and overturned that call.

The Hurricanes’ football twitter account had the most appropriate response to that final play.

Could describe what just happened, but it would take far more than 140 characters.

The Strength In Letting Go

I remember when I was still in it. I sat quietly on the couch. Fidgeting, shifting, and flushed. Trying to make myself appear comfortable, trying to convince my therapist that I was okay, trying to consider the implication of her accusation — her di…

I Was An Old Lady For 2 Weeks

The first thing I noticed was some pain and a little rash. The pain grew more and more pervasive, moving from my waist to the entire side to my abdomen. After three days, I went to the doctor. “I think I have spider bites, but they really hurt,” I sai…

Sunday Talk: Haters and losers

Several hours before the Republican presidential candidates even took the stage, (former?) front-runner Donald Trump was predicting that their their third debate would be “unfair.”

Although Trump’s prediction proved accurate, you certainly didn’t need to be a brain surgeon/snake oil salesman to see that one coming; I mean, the writing was literally on the wall.

CNBC, which hosted the debate, is a well-known hotbed of liberalism.

And so, it was hardly surprising that, unlike the recent Democratic presidential debate—where the candidates were tossed softballs—the questions posed by CNBC’s moderators were clearly designed
to expose the Republican candidates’
greatest weaknesses.

As it turned out, Jeb! didn’t need any help with that; he came to the debate prepared to expose his own weaknesses—as did John Kasich.

Meanwhile, on the other end of the spectrum, Ben Carson, Marco Rubio, and Ted Cruz all showed themselves to be quite adept at lying with a straight face.

Also, tooCarly Fiorina.

But, in the end, it was Trump who came out on top of all the unscientific post-debate polls—without any help from his daddy.
